INSPIRED WORK SPACES

Having an inspired work space is, for me, one of the best parts of working from home. Having a productive space to work, whatever the work you do, sometimes means compromise. Working with the space you have can be tricky. Throughout university my bedroom doubled as the room I kept my bookshelf and desk, which meant I spent a LOT of time in the same place.

Today our office doubles cleverly as a guest room for when family and friends stay the night. Most importantly, the desk is long enough (12 feet!!) for the two of us (thanks to my highly skilled partner-in-crime who custom designed and built it for us).

Things to consider when creating or re-creating your work space:

  • Surface space–do you have enough room for a laptop/desktop and a few books?
  • Organization–a place for everything and everything in it’s place. Jars make great pen holders, and rolling drawer sets like this one from Ikea are great for storage and double as added desk space. The more you can get off the desk surface, the less clutter and clean-up.
  • Desk chair–if you work at a desk, your desk chair is the best investment you can make. Nothing matters more than the stability of your neck and back. So find an ergonomic chair and don’t forget to stand up and stretch often.
  • Design–cover your walls and surfaces with things you like. Most importantly, you need to feel motivated and inspired by your environment.
